A free link maker for text
Text to Link is a free link maker for text. Type the words you want to show, paste the address and get a ready-to-use link as HTML, Markdown, BBCode, reStructuredText, AsciiDoc, Slack, Textile or Org-mode. Use it for blog posts, emails, forum signatures, documentation and social profiles – anywhere a bare URL looks messy.
It works as a text link generator, a URL text generator and an article link generator: add a title, open the link in a new tab, mark it nofollow, sponsored or ugc, strip utm_ and other tracking parameters and copy it as a rich link that pastes as clickable text into Gmail, Google Docs, Notion or Slack.
Need more than one link? Paste a whole paragraph in Linkify text mode and every URL inside it becomes a link, or use Bulk links to turn lines of “text | url” into a ready HTML list. Everything runs in your browser, so the text and URLs you enter are never uploaded.
How to link to highlighted text on a page
A highlight link, also called a text fragment link, opens a web page, scrolls to a passage and marks it. Open Advanced options, find “Highlight text on page”, type the exact words you want to highlight and the generator adds the #:~:text= part to your URL.
To highlight a longer passage, fill in the “until” field: the browser marks everything from the start words to the end words. If the same words appear more than once, use Precise match to add the text that comes right before or after. You can add several highlights to one link.
Highlight links work in Chrome, Edge, Safari 16.1+ and Firefox 131+. In other browsers the link still opens the page, just without the highlight. The text must be visible on the page and match exactly, ignoring upper and lower case.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert text to a link?
Type the link text, paste the URL, choose HTML, Markdown or another format and press Copy. The text becomes the clickable part of the link.
What is the difference between HTML, Markdown and BBCode links?
HTML links are used on web pages and in email templates, Markdown links on GitHub, Reddit, Notion and in documentation, and BBCode links on many forums.
How do I link to highlighted text on a web page?
Open Advanced options, type the words to highlight under “Highlight text on page” and copy the result. The link ends with #:~:text= followed by your text, and supporting browsers scroll to it and highlight it.
Can I remove utm and other tracking parameters from a URL?
Yes. In Advanced options choose “Remove tracking only” to drop utm_*, fbclid, gclid and similar parameters, or remove everything after the question mark.
How do I paste a clickable link into Gmail or Google Docs?
Press “Copy as rich link”, then paste. Your text arrives already clickable, with no code to edit.
Can I open the generator with the fields already filled in?
Yes. Add the parameters to the address: ?url=https://example.com&text=My%20link&fmt=markdown. On phones you can also install the site as an app and share a page straight to it.
Can I make a QR code for my link?
Yes. Press “QR code” below the result, scan it to check the link and download it as SVG or PNG. It is generated in your browser.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After the first visit the site is saved by your browser, so you can make links without a connection. Only the optional analytics and the preview of other websites need the internet.
Is the tool free and private?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and everything runs in your browser: the text and URLs you enter are never sent to a server. Analytics are only enabled if you accept them.
